Choosing fonts and spacing

Scroll Prev Up Next More

The chosen fonts and the font settings play a key role in the image that your document conveys.

Fonts and front sizes also have a major effect on readability.

If you’re unsure about a specific setting for a printed manual, don’t hesitate to print a test page on your office printer. On paper, the visual appearance and readability are often very different than they are on screen. Put several alternatives next to each other and compare them. When in doubt, ask a second person. This person doesn’t necessarily have to belong to your audience. Questions of readability are quite universal.
